Our Story

Society Hands, founded in 2021, is a community-based housing program dedicated to providing safe, comfortable, and affordable homes for adults aged 55 and older. Each fully furnished residence includes all utilities and essentials, ensuring residents feel at home from day one.



With a compassionate, people-first approach, Society Hands removes common barriers like income thresholds, credit checks, and background requirements. The organization continues to build partnerships with hospitals, senior organizations, and adult day centers to expand housing access and foster thriving, connected communities.

How it Works

Step 1

Submit a referral

Getting started is simple. Potential residents or caseworkers can complete a referral application and submit it for review. This begins the process of finding the right housing fit.

Step 2

Assessment & home visit

Once an application is received, our team will reach out to schedule a brief phone screening, review documentation, and arrange a home visit to meet the applicant in person. This process typically takes 1–2 days, depending on the applicant’s availability.

Step 3

move-in & get settled

After approval, the applicant will sign a short program agreement and move into their new home. Each resident is welcomed with care and given the support they need to feel comfortable and connected from day one.

  • Who is eligible to live in a Society Hands home?

    Society Hands provides housing for adults age 55 and older who are seeking a safe, affordable, and supportive living environment. We welcome individuals who may face barriers to traditional housing, such as income limits, credit challenges, or background checks.

  • How do I apply or refer someone for housing?

    To begin, simply complete the Referral Application and email it to hello@societyhands.com. Once received, our team will review the information and contact the applicant, case manager, or social worker to begin the screening process. 

  • Is there an application fee?

    No, there is no application fee to apply for housing with Society Hands. We believe in keeping the process simple and accessible for everyone.

  • What is included in the home?

    Each Society Hands residence is fully furnished and includes all utilities and household essentials, such as kitchenware, cleaning supplies, and bedding. Residents have everything they need to feel comfortable and at home from the moment they move in.

  • What is the length of stay?

    Residency is designed to provide long-term stability. While there is no fixed end date, residents are encouraged to stay as long as they continue to meet program expectations and wish to remain part of the community. 

  • Are there house rules or expectations for residents?

    Yes. Each home operates under a set of community guidelines that promote respect, safety, and cooperation among residents. These expectations include maintaining cleanliness, being courteous to others, and following basic house policies that ensure a positive living environment for all.

  • How much does it cost to live in a Society Hands home?

    Housing costs vary slightly by location and room type. However, all rates are affordable and inclusive of utilities and furnishings. For current pricing or to discuss available options, please contact us at hello@societyhands.com.

  • How soon can someone move in after applying?

    Most applicants can move in within 1–2 days after completing the screening and home visit, depending on availability and readiness. We aim to make the transition as quick and stress-free as possible.

  • What should residents bring when they move in?

    Since homes are fully furnished, residents only need to bring personal items such as clothing, toiletries, and any special belongings that make them feel at home. Basic household and living essentials are already provided.

  • Where are the homes located?

    Society Hands operates homes throughout Central Pennsylvania and Delaware, with each location selected for safety, convenience, and community access. As we grow, new homes will be added to serve even more residents in need of quality housing.
